Managing the relationship

It covers discipline and grievances, equal opportunities and discrimination, and performance and absence management.

Discipline

This section covers the law and good practice on handling discipline and grievances with particular reference to the provisions of the Acas Code of Practice on discipline and grievance.  

Equal opportunities

This section covers the issue of equal opportunities in employment. It explains how discrimination is defined, the types of workers who are covered, the types of discriminatory act that are unlawful and the limited circumstances in which discrimination is permitted.

Managing performance

This section deals with the principles of law and good practice in performance management, focusing in particular on handling performance appraisal and capability issues and the management of absence, including sickness absence.
